This is much too much to pass by :)

Anyone meeting the two of you may presumably be first influenced by Prateek's strongly voiced opinions. He also is the more gregarious of the two of you.

I know a few guys who are "Ms. X's husband" to most people :)

I do think you've played yourself into the background sometimes - you could have been on stage in Proto!

Whoever identifies you as just Prateek's wife - has not actually spend some time with you. You are doing a great job, and you should be proud of it.

A male dominant society like India is full of people who might be using 21st century gadgets but still keep 14th century thoughts. Just smile at their stupidity and move on.

How about this ??

"Prateek's wife is doing a fabulous job as the CEO of muziboo" :)

Anyway, those who don't appreciate your professional pedigree are either plain oblivious or malicious...Forgive the former and ignore the latter...As for those who appreciate your value as "a domestic, sexual and romantic companion", I see no wrong in that :)

Hi Shourya,

I am not saying being identified as a man's wife or a woman's husband is wrong altogether. It depends on the context.

P.S:The adopted surname wasn't forced on me!

What's your surname ? Did you have it from birth ?
Did you chose to adopt it or was it forced upon you ?

There's nothing wrong in being identified as a man's wife (or a woman's husband). Both of you should be proud of it :-)

Now if there comes a day, where people start overlooking your genuine achievements because of your gender or whose spouse you are, then there is a problem (and I am not saying that this does not happen)

Cheer up :-)

@Sandip I definitely wasn't trying to convey through this post that web models are applicable in the real world. I was rather looking at it this way: What sounds impossible in the real world is the norm in the virtual world, even when the cost of adding customers or serving them cannot be dismissed as marginal.

@Amar True. Most businesses don't charge because they are scared. Scared because they don't add any real value.

One of the few 'Brick n mortar' companies that have managed to sustain the 'Freemium' model is Gillette - selling cheap razors with expensive blades. However there is fundamental difference in the economics of a product and service company, which dictates the pricing models. That being the marginal cost: every 'offering' that has more value than the marginal offering is priced at a premium that is just enough to off-set its value over the marginal offering. So, in your example, if restaurants could exponentially (or some other function)increase parking fees based on the minutes spent in the restaurant (directly proportional to the value of the offering, quite literally :)) then they will be able to offset their costs. In any case, the end result is the same - customers have to pay one way or the other. And I dont think the mass-market outreach of the Internet can be replicated for a local business, so it inevitably comes down to the same thing. And this conundrum increases its appeal...
